The Cattery of Hautsartoux
| Our passion for the Maine Coon cat started in 1991 with a female called “HESTIA” , a blue blotched tabby. We went on shows to present that breed which has an excellent character, is everywhere in your house and looks non exotic but wild. At that time the Maine Coon type was not optimised and it challenged us to start our breeding. The cat family has grown up quickly with acquisition of cats from various American lines. The main lines are Advent Hill, Hillside, Coonyham and Cooncreole. However we keep a reduced number of cats to allow daily cuddles to all and give them full attention. Since we are breeding our Maine Coons which are recognized for their good temperament, very cute and well socialized. We emphasize on excellent type with strong muzzles, good boning while keeping within the standards of the breed. We exhibit our cats on shows and we have several European Champion awards. We are proud to see our kittens at new breeders. Our cats leave inside and outside in large spaces equipped to climb, play and hunt to their convenience. All our breeding cats are guaranteed FeLV, FIV, PIF negative and are checked for HCM. |
|
Our kittens are raised in healthy conditions in an environment adapted to develop their lovely temperament. The kittens are sold at the age of 3 months fully vaccinated, checked and identified with microchip. They leave our home with a health certificate and a sale contract including warranty. We register all our kittens in LOOF and TICA or CFA. We provide in most colours, with or without white, Brown, Black Silver, Red, Torbie, Blue, Cream Blotched Tabby. Take a look at the photo library and you are welcome to visit the cattery to see our Maine Coons. The cattery has been nominated in 2002 “Outstanding
Cattery” by The International Cat Association and we apply to the
voluntary Code of Ethics program. We are officially certified to handle
domestics animals. |

The Maine Coon : The Yankee Cat
| The Maine Coon , or Maine Cat, is one of the oldest natural breeds of North America, and is generally regarded as a native of the state of Maine. There are a number of legends concerning its origin, a very popular one being that it originated from cross-mating between racoons and cats, which is genetically impossible. The name reflects likelihood the resemblance of the tabby Maine Coon’s tail to that of a racoon. The Maine Coons
have always been admired for their beauty and have been popular competitors
at early cat shows in Boston and New York in the late 19th century. They
declined as show cats with the arrival of the flamboyant Persians, but
as household pets they still reigned supreme in the north eastern states.
After quite a long time, the Maine Coons are back in most cat shows and
it is not unusual to see them named Best Cat of the show. |

The
Maine Coon is well known for its large size, easygoing temperament and
his rugged appearance. They can grow to be quiet large, males commonly
weigh up to 20 pounds. Females are generally somewhat smaller than males,
though still taller than the average household pet. This breed is know
for its loving nature, kindly disposition , specially with children and
dogs. Maine Coons are indeed handsome as well as strong cats and great
hunters. |
